Base Tennis officially started in September 2010, and for those who know Rodney and Ruben, know that it started much earlier than that. Both Ruben and Rodney attended university together in the USA on a sports scholarship and after graduating in 2005 and 2006 respectively, they went their separate ways. Ruben embarked on a career in marketing and Rodney stayed in tennis.

Rodney moved to London in the summer of 2006 and was able to start work at a small club in North London. After a few years this club was awarded the status of a Performance Club and had some regional and national standard players training and representing the club. After 5 years in London, Rodney decided that he would like to start a new challenge and take a risk by moving to Germany to start a fresh.

Starting ‘a fresh’ is the nice way of saying we started from nothing. In fact, Base Tennis began with more coaches (two) than players. The fact that Base went from nothing and is now slowly starting to gain shape, is a testament to the work that everyone involved with Base has undertaken. We are not even close to achieving the goals that we have set out for Base, but we are happy with the direction it is moving in, and are relentless in the pursuit of building a successful program.

Today we are able to say that Base Tennis works with players from all over Germany, but also the UK, New Zealand, USA, Australia and many other countries. No matter where you come from, we all speak the same language, ‘Tennis’. This sport connects so many people in so many different ways and we are very lucky to be a part of this phenomenon. When we started Base, we dreamed of changing a person’s life on and off the court through tennis. It was about to creating that special environment where all these dreams could manifest into realities.

Base would like to thank everyone who has supported us on our journey so far, and to the players, staff, parents and partners, we know without you, Base would not exist. If we could sum up in one word what Base Tennis means, we would use the word "Family". Anyone that is involved with us could tell you that Base is one big family.

Whatever your standard, age or reasons are, come and join us on this journey. We would love to have you as part of the “Family".
